Model Overview:
As World War II intensified, increasingly heavy armored vehicles made battlefield recovery a critical challenge for the German Wehrmacht. Operating across extreme environments such as North Africa's deserts and the vast plains of Russia, German forces relied on specialized recovery and transport vehicles to retrieve damaged tanks and restore combat strength under harsh conditions.
About the German FAMO Model
Role of the FAMO
The German 18-ton heavy half-track known as the FAMO became a key solution for towing and transporting disabled armor. Designed as a powerful recovery vehicle, it carried essential tools and equipment, featured onboard winching capability, and worked in tandem with the Sd.Ah.116 tank transporter trailer. Together, they enabled the movement of medium tanks and heavy artillery either by direct towing or by loading them onto the large trailer system.
Detailed Scale Representation
Tamiya's 1/35 scale FAMO and Sd.Ah.116 kit captures the complexity and scale of this iconic German transport combination. The model highlights the articulated trailer design, realistic materials, and accessory details that reflect real-world operation.
